    The mintage levels for the Burnished American Gold Eagles have captured the attention of many collectors. Since the coins were introduced, sales levels have receded to extremely low levels. Several issues command sharp premiums for their rarity.

  • 2006-W
    The United States Mint introduced a new type of numismatic offering for the long running American Gold Eagle. The coins were struck on specially burnished blanks with an uncirculated finish and the "W" mint mark.
  • 2007-W
    The US Mint once again offered collectible uncirculated or "burnished' versions of the American Gold Eagle. These were sold in four different sizes, individually or with a four coin set.
  • 2008-W
    The 2008-W Burnished Gold Eagles were offered during an economically tumultuous year. The market price of gold experienced a sharp drop and demand for the metal increased following the economic panic.
  • 2011-W
    After cancelling the offering for two years, the United States Mint resumed the issuance of the Burnished Gold Eagles in 2011. As opposed to earlier years, only the one ounce size was available.
  • 2012-W
    The 2012-W Burnished Gold Eagle currently has the lowest final mintage of any coin of the series at just 5,829 pieces. The issue remains in demand as a modern key date rarity.

    For another year, the United States Mint offered a collectible uncirculated version of the American Gold Eagle in one ounce size. These coins were struck on specially burnished blanks and offered as a numismatic product.

    The 2014-W Burnished Gold Eagle went on sale at the United States Mint on May 22, 2014. The coins would sell out before the end of the year with last reported sales figures of 7,902 pieces, surpassing the total of the prior year.

    The United States Mint continued the annual offering of a one ounce American Gold Eagle struck on burnished blanks and carrying the "W" mint mark. The 2015-W Burnished Gold Eagle had last reported sales of 6,533 pieces, coming in at the low end of the min

    The United States Mint opened sales for the 2016-W Burnished Gold Eagle on April 7, 2016. The coins are struck in one ounce of gold on specially burnished blanks and carry the "W" mint mark.
